The Story of Budgalong – The Australian Country Lifestyle

Welcome to this edition of The Story of Budgalong, where we take you into the heart of our farm. Budgalong has been a labour of love since its founding in 1959, passed down through three generations of our family. Spread across 7,000 acres and four properties—Budgalong, Bungiebomar, Fairfield, and Mountview—we’ve built a mixed farming operation that includes sheep, cattle, and crops, all nurtured with care and a vision for future generations.

At Budgalong, everything begins with the soil. We believe that by creating healthy, balanced soil, we can grow the plants that fuel our livestock and produce the exceptional quality you’ll experience at our table. Through sustainable practices like rotational grazing and pasture management, we’ve built a system that gives back to the land while supporting a thriving farm.

Located in the historic village of Spicers Creek, Budgalong is part of a close-knit farming community with deep roots in the regions agricultural and historical heritage. Originally an old gold mining town in the 1850s, Spicers Creek saw a wave of settlement as miners sought their fortunes in the area. Although the gold rush eventually dwindled, the town’s rich history remains woven into the land and its people.

Today, Spicers Creek thrives as a vibrant farming community, and Budgalong continues to honour that legacy by embracing the traditions of agriculture and community spirit. Our commitment to the land and to the people around us is what makes Budgalong so special—and it’s the story we love sharing with you.

One way we share our connection to the land is through our paddock-to-plate experience. It’s a celebration of homegrown, locally sourced produce—fresh from the farm to your table. This experience is special because the food is enjoyed on the very land where it was nurtured and grown.

Our paddock-to-plate dining is inspired by our passion for connection—not only connecting with the land but also connecting with the people who join us to share in the bounty of what we grow. Whether it’s our lamb, honey, or other local produce, you’ll taste the essence of Budgalong in every bite.

If you’d like to experience this firsthand, join us for the Budgalong Fire Feast or plan a stay at Budgalong Lodge. You can also follow us on social media for more updates and stories from the farm. And if you enjoyed this newsletter, please feel free to share it with family and friends who might appreciate the Budgalong experience.
