Discover the Forgotten Rail Trail at Budgalong Lodge
History
Hidden deep on the Budgalong property lies a unique piece of history — a private rail trail that was built during the Great Depression but never saw a single train pass through. Today, this untouched path offers a rare cycling experience through peaceful, scenic countryside, weaving through old tunnels, grazing sheep, and remnants of a bygone era. The rail trail follows the route of the Sandy Hollow line, constructed in the 1930s by workers seeking employment during tough economic times. Despite months of hard labor, the section on our property was never completed for operation and was eventually abandoned, leaving behind tunnels, steel wheels, and old railway relics. Read More
